Building Our Layout |
|
The members of the Winchester Model Railroad Club have a variety of interests, ranging from narrow-gauge steam to mainline modern diesel, and all points in between. Many ideas were tossed about and “discussed” as the design for the Club’s layout in the new building were mulled over. Finally a modified track plan, designed by John Armstrong, was agreed upon. This design incorporated most of the desires of the Club members which focused on long “mainline” runs and sidings for various industries. Various areas of the existing layout were loosely built to resemble local Winchester and Frederick County Virginia |

scenes, including a scale replica of the Winchester train station located just a few blocks away from the clubhouse — the replica made entirely from paper. Most of the scenery bares the names of past & present members of the Club such as Van Harris Mountain, Kinnaman Yard, Sullivan’s Curve, and Dawson Steel Company. As with all creative processes there have been many changes over time, additions and removals. Not surprisingly when passionate and creative minds come together there have even been a few disagreements over what and how to do things. Modifications are always decided on a majority-rules basis so matters on contention and limited and the membership decides on the merits of each change accordingly. The story of the building of our layout continues on the NEXT PAGE. |
