In 1982 a small group of model railroad hobby enthusiasts joined together
to form the Winchester Model Railroad Club.  Their goal was to mutually pursue
what would become referred to as the "Greatest Hobby in the World".

This website contains a brief history of what that

year pursuit has accomplished.  We discuss our original formation to the construction
of our current layout today.  By the way, our current layout is under construction.  We
invite all to come and join us.  Join us if you're the die-hard model railroad hobbyist
who has been unaware of the Club's existence.  Join us if you're an eager amateur that may be thinking of constructing
      your first layout!!

Our prior clubhouse was located in the old CSX Freight Building near downtown
Winchester, Virginia, in the northern Shenandoah Valley.

We are about to begin construction of a new clubhouse in Middletown, VA.  We
have a piece of land next to the railroad track and are about to begin laying our foundation.

      Our current meeting schedule:
We still meet each Tuesday (weather permitting).  We meet at
Shaffer's BBQ; tell your GPS to go to 8140 Valley Pike, Middletown, VA 22645.  The
business meeting is at 6:00 p.m. each week.  The buisiness meeting is only 1 hour
long becase of Shaffer's closing time.  Several of
us come early (5:00) for supper before the meeting.

      Our regular meeting schedule:
When our new building is ready for occupancy, the club will meet each Tuesday (weather
permitting).  Holidays are handled as they come along; we use emails and Facebook to communicate
rare schedule changes.  When our new home is ready, we will hold our monthly business
      meeting on the second
Tuesday of each month.  Meetings will be held at 7:00 to 9:00 each
Tuesday.  Other Tuesdays are when we work and play on the railroad.&nbsnp; New members
are always welcome; however, they may not participate in any voting until they are voted into the
      club.

      Our open house schedule:
At our old location we held several open houses per year.  Since we are under construction
we have postponed these, but we look forward to doing them as soon as
possible.  More detials are to come.

Our previous home in Winchester ...

      Middletown's old station ...

Our new home will be larger.

It will be next to the tracks.  And most of the members will be
more mature than the train master in the picture.
